Malawi Women’s Football Team have registered their first win in the 2024 COSAFA Women’s cup having destroyed Madagascar 1 to nil.
A 7th minute goal from Asimenye Simwaka saw Malawi leading the game until it was over.
Through this victory, Malawi is placed second in Group B with 4 points, Madagascar is on position 3 with 3 points and Mauritius is no the bottom level with no points.
Players like Asimenye Simwaka, Sabina Thom and Catherine were key in applying pressure throughout the game which saw them extending their lead.
Speaking in an interview with ProjectM, Asimenye Simwaka, who has been crowned player of the Match expressed excitement with the score.
“Am greatful to God for an opportunity to score in this tight race I wouldn’t have done in on my own. Am hoping to do more in our next game”, she said.
In the 2023 Cosafa Hollywood Bets, Simwaka was also instrumental as she scored 4 goals.
This was the fourth meeting between the two side at the competition with She Flames dominating in all games.
In 2017, Malawi defeated Mauritius 6-3 while in 2018 and 2019 the matches ended in 2-0 wins for the defending champions.
On Monday, the defending champions will face Mauritius who do not have a point currently.
