Malawi Netball Team Leaves for UK Tourney 

Malawi National Netball Team left on Monday for Vitality Nations Cup scheduled for 1 to 9 February in Nottingham and London, England.

The Four-Nations Tournament will feature Malawi, South Africa, Uganda and hosts England.

Despite being in a rebuilding exercise, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President Vitumbiko Gubuduza said they expect the team to improve on its performance at the previous two competitions last year.

The team played three test series against South Africa in which they lost by a wide margin and finished in the Africa Netball Championship on a record low on fourth position after losing to Zimbabwe in a third-place play-off.

According to the fixture, Malawi open the tournament with a match against hosts England on February 1 after South Africa, Uganda encounter.

On February 2, Malawi clash with Uganda while England battle it out against South Africa.

After resting for a week, Malawi date South Africa on February 8 with England taking on Uganda. The competition comes to an end on February 9 with the top two battling for honours while the bottom two will fight for third-place.

The Malawi squad comprises experienced centre court Takondwa Lwazi who has come back from retirement and UK-based shooter Joyce Mvula who missed the Africa Netball Championship in Namibia.

The following is the full squad; defefenders: Towera Vikhumbo, Shabel Bengo, Grace Mwafulirwa, Thocco Makungwa and Martha Dambo.

Mid-court: Lwazi, Thandie Galeta and Florence Gamula. Shooters: Tendai Masamba, Mvula, Ethel Ng’ambi, Ruth Kaliyenda.
