The Ministry of Tourism says preparations in readiness for the 2025 International Tourism Expo are at an advanced stage.
Tourism minister Vera Kamtukule has made the remarks as the nation is set to hold the expo slated for 24 to 26 April, 2025 at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
Kamtukule underlined the need for concerned stakeholders to join hands in ensuring the success of the expo.
“This year’s theme, Solidifying the gains, speaks to the gains that the tourism sector has made within the last few years and how those gains can be solidified to create a platform for where the industry is heading,” said Kamtukule.
The minister called on players in the sector to register and showcase their services.
“This is a great opportunity for service providers to showcase their services and entice tourists,” said Kamtukule.
The minister has since underscored the need for Malawians to give the expo the attention it needs.
“As we are striving to achieve the Agenda 2063, sectors like these need our help,” she added.
Meanwhile, one of the country’s leading hospitality brands, Amaryllis Hotels has partnered with the ministry of tourism in preparations for the expo.
“We believe in investing in our country’s tourism future and as such, we have made a contribution of K10 million to help in preparing for the event,” said Amaryllis Hotels General Manager, Ramy Waheed.
The event has attracted local and international partners, including popular hotel brands such as Amaryllis Hotels, Crossroads Hotels, Umodzi Park, Sunbird Hotels and Resorts, Liwonde National Park and Majete Game Reserve, just to mention a few.
The ministry is yet to release the list of international partners as some are yet to finalise with registration processes.
The expo, which started in 2019, serves as a platform for displaying new destinations, services and unique cultural experiences from around the world.
The essence of these expos, according to the ministry, lies in connecting people and ideas, thereby creating opportunities for networking, sharing insights, and learning about global tourism trends.
The event has also helped to resuscitate the country’s tourism sector which was affected by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
