The Malawi National Darts Team has won silver at the Region 5 Darts Championship in Mbabane, E-swatini after finishing second with their loss only to South Africa.
Malawi started the campaign on a positive note by beating Namibia in their opening match on Wednesday.
On Thursday they beat Botswana in the second match but lost to South Africa in the third match. They recovered to beat Zimbabwe and then Botswana and the hosts E-Swatini.
Team manager Morgan Jia said he was excited with the result despite that they were keen on winning gold.
He said: “Our target was to win gold while silver was a second option, but not anything less than that.
“It was a tough game against South Africa because they are exposed and play in world tournaments.”
On his part, the team’s captain Rogers Zako said they deserved the result because they were well prepared
“We had good preparations and were very determined. Apart from the South Africa match, we dominated most of the matches,” he said.
Apart from Ziko, other members of the Malawi team are Austin Chingagwe, Carnage Mkandawire, Rodrick Dzimbiri, Joe Zangazanga, Marcel Kasambara, Thoko Tembo and Chisomo Champion. Zimbabwe finished third to clinch bronze.
