The Malawi National Darts Team left for Mbababe in E-Swatini, formerly Swaziland to participate in the 2024 Region 5 Darts Championship.
Malawi team, comprising captain Rodgers Zako, vice-captain Rodrick Dzimbiri, Austin Chingagwe, Carnegie Mkandawire, Joe Zangazanga and Marcel Kasambara will compete against Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and the hosts.
Malawi’s team manager Morgan Jiya said he expected Malawi to do well.
“We had good preparations and we are looking forward to performing well.”
Jiya said they have a full-strength squad apart from Amin Chathamanga, who failed to go after losing his passport.
“Amin was replaced by Chisomo Champion and he is equally good,” he said.
The team is participating after Malawi won Africa Sub-Region World International Cricket Council Under-19 T20 qualifiers.
The team finished unbeaten after seeing off E-Swatini, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho and highly fancied and tournament favourites Kenya.
