Malawi Beat Burundi in Afcon Beach Soccer Qualifier

The Malawi Beach Soccer has defeated Burundi 6-7 in the first leg of the 2024 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier at the OlymAfrica Stadium in Burundi this afternoon.

Isaac Kajamu’s four goals, Dala Simba and Aubrain Nkhumbula goal each and own goal led to team Malawi’s victory.

At the end of the first period Malawi was leading 3 goals against 1 with a brace from Isaac Kama and Dala Simba.

In the second half, Malawi led with 5-3 with a hat-trick from Isaac Kajamu and Dala Simba.

The second leg is scheduled for Saturday for 27 July at the Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima and will qualify if they win on aggregate.

The last time Malawi appeared in the Afcon finals was in 2022 Mozambique in which the team finished seventh during the finals.

Malawi lost all the three matches to Mozambique (4-2), Morocco (7-3) and Uganda (4-1).

In March this year, Malawi won bronze at the Cosafa Beach Soccer Championship in Durban, South Africa.
