The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) says the Connect to School Project will equip students with information, communication and technology skills.
Finance Manager for MACRA Limba Chapomba said her organisation noticed some gaps between the urban and rural areas; hence, introducing the project in secondary schools for them to have an access to internet services.
She told ProjectM that the ICT lab at Nkhwangwa Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) will provide a platform for the students to have access to internet services.
“Access for ICT services should be for everyone as it is no longer a privilege but a right,” she said.
The headteacher for Nkhwangwa CDSS Charles Kamanula hailed MACRA for the ICT lab, saying it will equip students with the modern technology skills.
He said students will be able to find more advanced knowledge in regard to their studies.
“Our students will learn computer skills whilst they are in secondary schools unlike their time when there was no such modern technologies,” he said.
A Form two student Caroline Malunga said she is very pleased with the computer lessons in her third year once said she passed the Junior Primary School.
“I am delighted that I will learn computer lessons right here at school,” said the student.
Village Headman Nkhwangwa said she will ensure that the labs are taken care of in schools.
