In a world where financial stability often seems elusive, Mchinji based determined youthful entrepreneur, Susan Sichali stands out as a beacon of hope.
Sichali, a Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) bachelor of arts in social work and youth development student, dared to challenge conventional norms by venturing into farming.
She has told ProjectM in an interview that her passion for farming begun in 2015 during her stay with her uncle.
“Witnessing the hardwork my uncle was putting in farming, it sparked my interest and I decided to follow suit,” Sichali said.
Few years later in 2021/2022 farming season, Sichali revisited her aspiration starting with Soybean farming.
“The initial attempt failed due to drought and the crops did badly,” said Sichali.
Learning from her mistakes, Sichali tried again in the 2022/2023 farming season and this time, her perseverance paid off.
“I harvested a lot of Maize, a success which propelled me into a full-time farming career,” She said.
Asked on how she balance between entreprenuership and school, Sichali said a combination of focus, resilience and patience helps her to overcome any challenges.
Currently, her farm located at Kamwendo in Mchinji is able to support her financial needs.
Media and communications expert who has also reported extensively on issues of farming and entreprenuership, Abraham Bisayi has commended Sichali, calling her story “remarkable”.
“Susan’s farming journey is a shining example of how determination, resilience and patience can overcome adversity, inspiring others to pursue their passions,” said Bisayi.
