In a heartwarming gesture that exemplifies the true spirit of giving, Lilongwe based resident, Catherine Zamayere, chose to celebrate her 50th birthday milestone by making a donation to Bwaila Martenity Hospital.
On her special day Zamayere handed over packages of assorted items to mothers whose children were born on her birthday and those in need.
Speaking in an interview with ProjectM, Zamayere said she was compelled to celebrate her golden age in a special way.
The donation was accompanied by a message, which spoke about the importance of giving back during significant life moments.
“As my birthday was approaching, I thought of celebrating my birthday in a remarkable way especially realizing that I’ve been fortunate in so many ways over the years and as I reach this milestone, I wanted to find a meaningful way to celebrate with others. Am happy that I could put a smile on the mother’s faces,” she explained.
She said: “I am grateful that I had an opportunity to celebrate my birthday with babies born today and knowing that I have reached 50 this is no mean milestone. I am also grateful to the people that put their resources”.
In her remarks, Tamandani Tachu, Senior Nursing Officer at Bwaila Hospital expressed her deep gratitude for Catherine’s generosity.
“We deliver about 70 babies on a daily basis most of whom comes through referrals which is a challenge because they don’t come with necessities. This will go a long way in supporting our mothers because most of them lack basic needs because they come from poor families,” she said.
Expressing gratitude for Catherine’s donation, is Agness Patrick, one of the people whose child was born on 2 March.
“Receiving this donation at such a difficult time is a blessing. It’s not just the support, but the reminder that there are people out there who care, and I am really grateful”, she said.
