Lilongwe-based multifaceted engineer-cum innovator, Christopher Kamanga is a rare talent and a force to reckon with within the engineering circles after opening a company that specialises in the manufacturing of complex machines.
Kamanga’s company, Christone Engineering, manufactures machines such as Maize Mills, Water Pumps, Juice Processors and Stone Crushers, just to mention a few.
Kamanga has also indicated that the company specialises in borehole drilling and installation.
He has told ProjectM in an interview that he developed passion for engineering after noticing a gap in the local manufacturing industry.
“You might agree with me that most of the machines I manufacture here are mostly those that people used to think no Malawian person can manufacture or assemble and I am here to change that,” said Kamanga.
He said Christone Engineering is making inroads on the local manufacturing industry as more people are now eager to purchase and try their machineries.
“In the last few months, our company has been received numerous orders to supply machineries to people which means we are making essential strides,” said Kamanga.
Currently, he has employed several people who help mainly in marketing and distribution.
He added that his vision is to see his machineries being competitive on the local market against imported ones.
Farmers Voice Africa (FAVOA) president Brighton Zakaria has commended agricultural machines produced by Christone Engineering, saying they have greatly reduced the post-harvest losses farmers have been making due to lack of proper machineries for processing.
“As FAVOA, we are recommending our farmers to purchase these machines because we have seen and tried them,” he said.
Chembekezo Mwale, a Maize farmer, based in Area 25 Lilongwe, has rated Christone Engineering machines highly, saying they are durable.
