Lilongwe City Council Unveils Dozer to Boost Waste Management

Lilongwe City Council has launched a stateof the art John Deere 850J Dozer at the city’s dump site in Area 38, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to enhance waste management and environmental sustainability.

The new equipment, unveiled by Deputy Minister of Local Government, Honorable Joyce Chitsulo, on Friday, January 17, 2025, is expected to transform operations at the dump site, enabling the city to manage solid waste more effectively.

“Effective waste management is crucial for the health and well-being of our citizens,this Dozer will enable Lilongwe City Council to improve waste disposal processes, minimize environmental hazards, and create a cleaner city for everyone.”said Hon. Chitsulo.

The John Deere 850J Dozer boasts an impressive 205-horsepower engine and an operating weight of 40,165-44,414 pounds. Its capabilities include compacting waste, leveling landfill areas, and creating access roads within the dump site.

Her Worship, Councillor Esther Sagawa, Mayor of Lilongwe City, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative.

“This equipment is more than a tool it’s a game-changer for how we manage waste in our city. It will enhance efficiency, reduce environmental degradation, and improve the living conditions for residents around the dump site.” Explained her worship.

The procurement of the Dozer was made possible through DFLA and has been supplied by TATA.
