Lilongwe-based youthful entrepreneur, Sothini Shaba has captured the attention of his peers by establishing a company that specializes in packaging and manufacturing honey products.
Shaba, 25, is the vice chairperson of a company called Bumble vee Enterprise which is manufacturing several products trading under the banner “Veda honey products”.
He has told ProjectM in an interview that he has always dreamed of establishing his own company since 2013.
“Ever since I was young, I’ve always been an entrepreneur and over the years I’ve gained business experience that has helped me to establish this company,” Shaba said.
The company which is currently building it’s headquarters in Lilongwe and has 3 full-time employees, purchases natural honey from farmers which is then packaged for sale.
Some of the honey is also processed into various products including ointments.
“My experience in working with honey has taught me that you can produce several products from natural honey which is why our company specializes in that,” said Shaba.
Currently, Veda Honey Products are being sold locally with plans at an advanced stage to start exporting in countries such as Zambia and South Africa.
Meanwhile, Shaba has advised youths in the country to take a risk even when odds are not in their favour.
Economic expert and lecturer of Commerce and Industry at the Nkhoma University in Lilongwe, Vincent Matiya Chirwa has commended Shaba for establishing the company, calling it a step in the right direction.
