While to many snails are often viewed as slimy and disgusting creatures, Goodfellow Phiri, a Lilongwe-based innovator, has found a way to turn them into a lucrative business.
Phiri’s company, Environmental Industries, has developed a unique body lotion called “Gezina Snail Gel Body Lotion” which is made from raw materials extracted from snails.
The lotion, which is being touted as a miracle cure for various skin-related diseases, has become a darling to some skincare enthusiasts.
According to Phiri, the lotion’s production process involves collecting snail mucin which is then carefully processed to extract a key component called Allantoin.
“This component is crucial in manufacturing the body lotion because it contains remarkable healing properties,” Phiri said.
Phiri’s journey into the world of snail-based skincare began with a passion for innovation and a desire to create something unique.
“And after months of research from 2021, I stumbled upon the idea of using snail mucin to create a body lotion and the rest, as they say, is history,” said Phiri.
Currently, Gezina Snail Gel Body Lotion is being sold at the company’s headquarters in Area 25, Lilongwe.
“Plans are underway to scale up production and distribution,” He added.
Skincare enthusiast Esther Kaunda based in Area 25, Lilongwe has described Phiri’s innovation as powerful.
“I am a proud user of this product and I must admit that it really do wonders on the skin,” said Kaunda.
