LAKE DZOMBE, A MAGNIFICENT MAN-MADE LAKE WORTH EXPLORING

It will be a September to remember for you if you take a boat ride in ‘Lake’ Dzombe, a magnificent small man-made lake situated at Sunbird Kalipano Hotel in Dowa district.

The man-made lake was constructed under close supervision of renowned entrepreneur and Philanthropist Dr Napoleon Dzombe.

The roughly 200 square metres lake was engineered by expanding a stream that passes just few metres from the hotel.

With an impressive collection of boats fitted with all the necessary safety measures, cruising on the lake leaves you satisfied, almost forgetting that the entire site was expanded from a small stream.

In an exclusive interview with ProjectM, Dzombe said the idea behind the construction of the ‘lake’ was to give visitors an opportunity to experience pleasure at an affordable rate.

“A lot of people, who love swimming or boat rides mostly go to Lake Malawi, a journey which is costly and that’s why this lake is here to cut those costs,” he said.

He said Lake Dzombe, also known as Lake Kalipano was built to give an opportunity to the local communities experience a feel of development.

“This lake, just like the whole hotel has given surrounding communities an opportunity to make extra income through tourism related activities happening here and as an investor, I am happy,” said Dzombe.

The entrepreneur added that he plans to expand his enterprises in Dowa as one way of maximizing tourism in the district.

Dzombe’s exploits in Dowa have already caught the attention of government which through the ministry of tourism has approved Kalipano Hotel and the man-made ‘lake’ a good place to visit.

Edwin Mwamadi, an ardent fan of swimming, has commended Dzombe for his vision, saying the ‘lake’ offers a unique pleasure to tourists.

“I would love if Malawians flock to this site because a boat ride in this lake feels exceptional,” said Mwamadi.

Another tourist, Khumbo Chiudzu based in Mponela, Dowa, has thanked Dzombe for building the dam, saying it has changed the face of Dowa.

“The area, where this lake is located, is slowly developing economically which I believe the building of this hotel has greatly contributed,” he said.

One thing which is clear is that if you visit the lake, you will be treated to the best views and an exciting boat ride.
