The Korean government has strengthened its support for Malawi’s agricultural sector by donating a grain dryer and six tractors to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The donation, handed over by Korean Ambassador Jyaeyung Park in Salima district, is part of efforts to promote agricultural commercialisation and mechanisation.
During the handover ceremony on Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale announced that the Malawian government has also ordered 10 additional grain dryers to further enhance agricultural productivity.
He said the equipment will help farmers improve post-harvest handling by enabling them to dry grains before taking them to market.
Kawale encouraged farmers to invest in modern agricultural machinery, noting that mechanisation is key to transforming the sector and boosting the country’s economy.
“I encourage our farmers to invest in grain dryers and other modern equipment. This will not only improve their yields but also enable them to bring better-quality produce to the market,” he added.
On his Part, the ambassador Park reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to supporting Malawi’s agricultural development, stating that such partnerships aim to strengthen food security and drive economic growth.
“The Korean government is dedicated to partnering with Malawi to modernise its agricultural sector. We believe that by providing essential equipment, we can help drive economic growth and improve food security,” said Park.
The donation is expected to reduce post-harvest losses, improve grain quality, and empower local farmers to adopt modern farming practices, contributing to the nation’s long-term agricultural sustainability.
