Kasungu Farmers Profit From Manure Making

A group of visionary farmers from Chiwengo village, Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu have teamed up to launch a Mbeya Manure making business.

The group operating under the name “Kamuzu COMSIP Cluster,” says it has made the decision to boost economic growth of its membership.

Community facilitator for the group, Violet Banda has indicated that members of the grouping invested over K865,000 to get the business off the ground.

“Our membership comprise of social cash transfer beneficiaries who saw it wise to invest part of the money they receive,” said Banda.

She said the grouping also saw it wise to venture into the business to offer farmers in their community an opportunity at a proven agricultural product they can afford.

“In the past, we used to make Mbeya Manure for domestic use only, but after a thoroughly research, we decided to widen the scope and go commercial,” said Banda.

The manure, trading under the brand “Kamuzu COMSIP Cluster-Mlera nthaka” is being touted as ideal for farmers who would like to harvest more with less investment.

“We have evidence that our product works because over the years, we have been using it,” she added.

Meanwhile, Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe has commended the grouping for being innovative.

“I am one of the farmers who are using their manure for farming this season and I know that their product really works,” said T.A Chilowamatambe.

Going forward, the grouping says it intends to start distributing the manure on an industrial scale.

Currently, the product is being sold to farmers around Kasungu District.
