Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule has called on Malawians to take the lead in tourism initiatives to invest in Marriott Hotel shares, to bolster Malawi’s tourism sector.
Kamtukule made the declaration on Friday November 22, 2024, during the unveiling of Blantyre Hotels Limited’s remarkable book, showcasing inspiring information about its new transformative project, the Protea Marriott Hotel Lilongwe Ryalls, currently under construction.
Speaking during the event, Kamtukule said the success of the tourism sector relies heavily on knowledgeable individuals steering the industry in their respective nations.
The Tourism Minister said, encouraging people to tap into the investment opportunity is crucial for the country’s economic development.
“In the ever-evolving tourism industry, staying ahead requires more than just passion to build a stronger more competitive tourism industry. This initiative is aligned with broader National goals of empowering the country’s citizens and promoting economic participation,’’ said Kamtukule.
According to her, the new Hotel Project will have economic multiplier effect that will make a real difference on the growth of the country’s tourism industry.
She has emphasized the country’s commitment to preserving and promoting the industry noting its immense potential to drive economic growth.
Blantyre Hotels (BHL) Chairperson Vizenge Kumwenda, echoed Kamtukule’s sentiments emphasizing the economic benefits of tourism and the need for increased investment in the sector.
“we firmly believe that this approach can spark economic transformation. Tourism plays a vital role in our country’s development and we urge Malawians to take bold steps and invest in the sector to build a resilient and inclusive economy,’’ said Kumwenda.
Meanwhile the Blantyre Hotels (BHL) Plc, are listed on the Malawi Stock Exchange, and plans to raise about K62.4 billion to complete the construction of a 180-bed Protea Marriott Hotel Lilongwe Ryalls.
