K445m Water System Commissioned in Msinja South

At least 8,000 people in Senior Chief Masula’s area in Lilogwe Msinja South will now access clean water following commissioning of the K445 million Kalesi Safer Water Project by Water Mission.

Launched on Wednesday, the life-changing project brings safe, chlorinated tap water to 11 villages, a development that local residents say will help the access clean water.

Said Nixon Sinyiza, the Executive Director of Water Mission: “We want to ensure that vulnerable communities have access to clean and safe water. Water is not just a need, it is a right, and this project is our way of bringing dignity and improved health to families.”

The project was warmly welcomed by the area’s Member of Parliament, Francis Berekanyama, who praised Water Mission’s efforts.

He said: “This project supports the government’s goals and complements the development work we are doing here. Clean water is key to better health and improved livelihoods.”

For many, the change is already deeply felt. Selina Mikayele, a mother of six, expressed her joy as she collected water from a tap near her home.

“I used to walk long distances just to fetch water from the borehole. “Sometimes we had to wait for hours. But now, clean water is right here. I am so happy and my children are safe.”
