INNOVATOR LAUNCHES CIVIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

Blantyre-based entrepreneur and innovator Emmanuel Chikwapula has launched an ambitious campaign aimed at educating the masses the benefits of recycling plastics.

Through the campaign, Chikwapula is collecting and buying plastics from people and recycling it into reusable products.

He has told ProjectM in an interview that he is conducting the campaign through his company called Emmtech.

“I launched the campaign in April 2025 and I intend to finish it this month (May),” Chikwapula said.

Chikwapula is moving around Blantyre City buying plastics from people at a minimum price of 200 kwacha per kg.

The plastics are then sorted and processed into reusable plastic building blocks.

“So far, I have received overwhelming support from people, especially those who understand the danger plastics pose to the environment,” said Chikwapula.

Since the launch of the campaign last month, his recycling facility is now processing over 25 kilograms of plastics per day.

“On a good day, our facility is processing over 50 kilograms of waste since the launch of the campaign,” he added.

Emmtech is based in Chiwembe, Blantyre with plans at an advanced stage to expand its operations to other areas.

Iness Chilangwe, an environmental expert and a media personality who specializes in environmental reporting has hailed Chikwapula’s campaign calling it innovative.

Chiwembe-based refuse collector, Mercy Alufeyo has welcomed the campaign, urging Chikwapula to extend the period of the exercise.
