Lilongwe-based dynamic and ambitious female entrepreneur Ruth Chimpala has carved a niche for herself in production of organic fertilisers which she utilises to grow cabbages.
Chimpala, based in Area 36, Lilongwe is transforming the agricultural scene with her innovative approach to sustainable farming.
She has indicated that her journey into entrepreneurship began with a passion for environmental friendly practices earlier this year.
Recognising the importance of sustainable agriculture, Chimpala decided to specialise in organic fertiliser production, a decision she said has paid off.
“My vision was to create a closed-loop system where my fertilisers would nurture my cabbages, eliminating the need for synthetic chemicals,” said Chimpala.
Her cabbage business has not only transformed her life but also empowered her to become self-reliant.
“I am proud to say that my business has enabled me to fend for myself, becoming one of big suppliers of cabbages at Kaondo Market in Area 36,” said Chimpala.
Her eco-friendly approach to agriculture has since made her cabbages popular in Area 36, becoming one of the most sought after vegetables by health conscious consumers and local restaurants.
“I want to encourage other women to explore opportunities in agriculture because it is a rewarding field,” she said.
Chimpala’s vision is to see more women adopting her expertise by practicing sustainable ways of farming.
Girls rights activist Ivy Makwale has hailed Chimpala for thriving in what she has described as a traditionally male-dominated sector.
“As a young entreprenuer, Ruth is an inspiration to others,” said Makwale.
