Located in the heart of Chikangawa Forest, Mzimba, lies a natural wonder that has captivated the imagination of locals and tourists alike, the majestic Elephant Rock.
This incredible rock formation, shaped like an elephant, stands proudly amidst the lush greenery of the forest, offering breathtaking views and a glimpse into Malawi’s rich natural heritage.
The Elephant Rock gets its name from its uncanny resemblance to an elephant, with its shape and structure mimicking the majestic animal.
This natural wonder is a result of millions of years of erosion, which has sculpted the rock into its unique shape.
According, Vitumbiko Chaba a resident in Mzuzu City said that, the Elephant Rock has become a major attraction for hikers from outside of Malawi, who come to marvel at its beauty and challenge themselves with the surrounding trails.
“We used to go there as local hikers during our youth days and surprisingly, we used to meet tourists from other countries,” added Chaba.
The Elephant Rock is easily accessible, making it an ideal day-trip destination for those visiting Mzuzu City. Simply take a leisurely drive along the M1 Road and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding landscape before arriving at the forest.
The Elephant Rock is a testament to Malawi’s natural beauty and a reminder of the importance of preserving our environment for future generations.
