Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has said the government is committed to fighting tuberculosis by providing necessary facilities to address the vice in the country.
The minister said this in Nsanje when she officially opened a Multi-Drug Resistance Tuberculosis Ward at Nsanje District Hospital in the district.
Speaking to ProjectM, Chiponda said the resurfacing of the new tuberculosis infection is a result of not adhering to the dose patients receive.
She said the government is constructing such wards in the country to curb the disease.
“Nsanje District has five patients suffering from the non-drug resistance TB who are positively responding to the treatment,” said Chiponda.
The minister said she is aware of the challenges health workers face.
Nsanje District Council Vice-Chairperson Felix Round commended the government for constructing a drug apartment in Nsanje.
She said it is important for Nsanje District to have such a ward.
“We are going to make use of this facility like any other wards in the district,” said Round.
