Graduate, Student Launch Technology Company

Hudson Mwangalika, a graduate from the Malawi Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and Hannah Bokosi, a second-year student at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) have joined forces to launch HB SPACE TL, a purpose-led technology company.

The company’s launch showcased various innovative projects, including a Premises Security system, a wearable Obstacle-Avoidance Gadget, an Autonomous Poultry Incubator and an Autonomous Smart Bin system.

These projects aim at addressing some of Malawi’s pressing challenges through innovative tech solutions while empowering vulnerable communities.

“We want to develop homegrown technology capabilities to address some of the country’s pressing challenges. These projects align with Malawi’s Vision 2063, which aims to transform the country into an industrialised, middle-income nation.

“We hope to inspire a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs to invest in socially responsible projects that can create real difference, not just in our community but on a global scale,” said Hudson Mwangalika, CEO of HB SPACE TL.

Hannah Bokosi, Executive Director for Empower Bridge for Charity, added: “We have taken a step forward to uplift marginalised groups by providing financial assistance and other incentives to communities facing significant challenges. Going forward, our focus is on expanding our reach and impact by developing more technologies that address other social needs.”

Associate Professor Chomora Mikeka, Director of Science Technology and Innovation in the Ministry of Education said innovation is crucial in national growth and development.

“Pursuing technological advancement brings benefits, making it an essential goal for any country. Technological progress fosters economic growth, improves lives and reduces dependence on foreign technology, which is crucial for sovereignty,” he said.

HB SPACE TL’s innovative projects have the potential to enable Malawi to embrace emerging technologies.
