The government through the Ministry of Trade and Industry says it is ready to support the Malawi National Women’s Football team forward Tabitha Chawinga setting up a cooking oil refinery plant.
The remarks come as the footballer’s manager, Tiana Msolomba has confirmed that France-based is in the process of setting up the plant in Dowa District.
Trade and Industry spokesperson Patrick Botha has told ProjectM in an interview that the ministry will soon engage the Olympique Lyonnais Feminine attacker to guide her on necessary steps she can take to ensure success for her dream project.
“As a ministry, we are very happy that Tabitha has decided to roll out such an ambitious project and we will soon engage her,” he said.
Asked on what specific support the ministry is going to provide, Botha was non-committal, saying it will be done after thorough consultations.
“What I can assure you however is that she will have our full support and we will do everything we can to fulfil our part,” said Botha.
The plant will, among others, help in balancing supply and demand issues that have riddled the cooking oil industry resulting in high cost of the product.
Sports analyst Maxwell Kachere, who has also worked with Chawinga in the past, has since commended her for taking the entrepreneurship route, describing it as a wise decision.
