From Passion to Profit: The Story of Go Green Propagation Farm

Mzuzu City-based youthful entrepreneur, Emmanuel Njikho is earning a living through horticulture farming.

The form three dropout is the managing director and owner of Go Green propagation farm which specialises in the cultivation and sale of various agricultural products including fruit seedlings.

The youthful entrepreneur has told ProjectM in an interview that he developed passion for horticulture after undergoing training from his grandfather, who was also a renowned entrepreneur.

“My grandfather used to own a small park in Mzuzu City which comprised mainly fruit trees and he is the one who started training me after I dropped out of secondary school,” said Njikho.

From 2011 to 2014, he underwent intensive training from his grandfather which helped him to establish a nursery which he was using for training.

“In 2015, I decided to expand and establish a farm which is now operating under the name Go Green propagation farm,” said Njikho.

The farm is home to tree seedlings such as Mangoes, Pawpaws, Oranges and Avocados, just to mention a few.

“As the name of our farm suggests, most of the trees we cultivate and sell here are propagated and highly valuable,” he said.

Go Green Propagation Farm has over the years developed into one of the main suppliers of trees to various government ministries and departments who mostly order the trees for reforestation exercises.

“One of our main customers is the ministry of Agriculture, which if I remember correctly, has ordered trees worth over 2 million kwacha since the establishment of this farm,” added Njikho.

Through the farm, he has managed to pay school fees for his 3 siblings and has also managed to employ four full-time employees who help him to run the affairs of the farm.

Although he was unwilling to disclose the amount of profit he makes per year, the entrepreneur has told ProjectM that he has no intention of ditching the enterprise, saying it is highly profitable.

His immediate plans are to set up a mega farm in Mzuzu.

Maloto Chimkombero, a youth rights activist and entrepreneur has hailed Njikho for taking a risk by venturing into entrepreneurship.
