FROM MINIBUS TOUT TO DEPUTY MAYOR

The story of Isaac Jomo Osman’s rise to great achievement is not only inspiring but also a fairy-tale stuff of resilience and determination.

He arrived in Blantryre City as a street-connected child who operated from a high density poverty-stricken Ntopwa Township on the outskirts of Limbe Town.

Ntopwa Township was notorious for abject poverty among its dwellers

Former minibus tout Isaac Jomo Osman beat the odds to ascend to the echelons of the corridors of power when he was elected Malawi’s commercial city of Blantyre Deputy Mayor.

Osman, who has seen the dark side and ugly scene of the rough world of poverty, made the statement when he was elected councillor of Ntopwa.

He got 11 votes to beat highly-fancied Gerald Lipikwe (9) and his predecessor Funny Baraba Kaojerera who got 10 to write another chapter in his book of success.

In an interview after winning, Osman told ProjectM that it shows that God is by his side.

“I thank God for always being good to me. I didn’t expect to assume this position,” he said.

Former Blantyre Deputy Mayor Joseph Makwinja returned with a bang to become the Mayor after seeing off her only challenger Gertrude Chirambo by 16 to 14 votes.
