Former Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu Manda on Saturday launched his K10 million trophy for football and netball teams in Nsanje.
The launch was at Nsanje Community Centre ground where Umodzi FC and Millennium FC graced the launch.
Speaking to ProjectM, Nyamilandu Manda said he wants to promote talent to the youths at the grassroots level.
Nyamilandu Manda, who is also an Executive Member of the continental body CAF, observed that there is talent in the rural area which needs to be exposed.
“Teams drawn from Nsanje South West are to articipate in the duo trophies,” the former FAM boss said.
During the launch, Millennium FC and Umodzi FC battled out for supremacy but were locked to one-all draw in regulation time. Millennium FC went on to beat Umodzi FC 4-2 on post-match penalties.
In related development, the former FAM Chief on Friday donated uniforms to the duo participating teams in preparations for the launch
He also donated 70 balls to teams meant to easy their training.
