FORM ONE STUDENT SETS A NEW RECORD FOR CREATING A CINEMA PROJECTOR

A 16-year-old Form One student Rojas Dangwe at Thangadzuwa Secondary School in Thyolo has made history by creating a cinema projector.

Dangwe, from Mpiyama Village, Traditional Authority Mchilamwera in the district, has used his creative and innovative skill to create the gadget. The gadget combines the functions of a keypad phone, bulb, piston rings, lens and other components.

The boy, who is currently out of school due to lack of school fees, says he created the projector within a period of two weeks using locally available materials.

“Before developing this gadget, I also created a cell phone and used it as a DVD player and a remote in 2019.

This projector for cinema has different functions and you can play or watch your favourite films and series in different ways and experience the magic of cinema in the comfort of your home using a memory card,” said Dangwe.

The self-taught artist adds that if he finishes his education, he wants to further his skills and passion for art and has since appealed to well-wishers to assist him with school fees for his education so that, with his vision, he can produce high-quality products and lead the innovation sphere to achieve success.

“As Malawians, we have demonstrated the immense potential that lies within our country and the ability to thrive and excel in diverse fields, including technology, business, and entrepreneurship. This versatile projector punches above its weight in terms of picture quality, vibrant colours, among others,” he said.

The Thyolo-based innovator said that with advanced technology, Malawi has all it takes to produce high-quality products such as cinema projectors using traditional craft techniques, offering Malawians a unique and authentic experience.

“As young enthusiasts with an unparalleled passion for innovation, we need to stand as visionary forces to embrace this opportunity to foster creativity and innovation in our young minds. With support and encouragement, even amidst challenges, we will continue to thrive and excel,” he said.
