Football Legends Association has come of age with a number of initiatives aimed at fostering the welfare of former players, especially those that played for the national team.
The association’s board chairperson Jim Kalua cited the rebranding from JK Productions to Football Legends Association and its registration under the trusteeship act and constitution of the board and other standing committees.
“We have also opened offices at Bingu National Stadium with a secretariat, rolling out medical scheme, opening business centre in Chitipi, Lilongwe, launching of replica jerseys sales, rewarding of 17 legends with K1 million each through Dr Thomson Mpinganjira,” said Kalua.
He also said the donation to a football academy in Lilongwe, the successful arrangement of two home and away friendly matches for the Flames Legends against their Zambian counterparts, which raised K32 million, are milestones.
Kalua also said there is a cordial working relationship with Football Association of Malawi which has raised the profile of the organisation.
He also said the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Football Association of Malawi, Champion Stadium of Dowa and South Africa Legends Association are also other breakthroughs.
“Our relationship with FAM is very good and recently Peterkins Kayira and Rodgers Yasin were assisted on medical aid which could not have been possible if they were members,” said Kalua.
He said the association has 133 registered members 55 of who are on medical aid.
Some of the members are Kinnah Phiri, Young Chimodzi, Spy Msiska, Lawrence Waya, Mavuto Lungu, Chancy Gondwe, Wilfred Nyalugwe, Gilbert Chirwa, Lovemore Fazili, Bob Mpinganjira and Peter Kaunda while Patrick Phiri, Essau Kanyenda, Acton Munthali, Ernest Mtawali, Chitty Malemia and Mphatso Namwali are foriegn based.
