The Football Legends Association (FLA) has made a significant contribution to the development of young football talent in Malawi, by donating sporting gear to the Lilongwe-based Ching’amba Football Academy.
The donation, sourced from UK-based FLA member Action Munthali and Into-sports, includes essential equipment such as boots, jerseys and match balls.
According to FLA Chairperson Jim Kalua, the donation is a testament to the association’s commitment to nurturing local football talent.
“This donation not only provides the team with the necessary equipment to enhance their performance but also encourages more young talents to pursue their passion for sports,” he said.
Kalua emphasised the importance of investing in youth sports, highlighting its potential impact on the development of the national football team and local clubs.
“We need to support the growth of professional league structures, tournaments and player development programmes, which will provide opportunities for talented young stars to showcase their skills and gain exposure to higher levels of the game,” he said.
The FLA chairperson expressed his passion for football development and the importance of investing in youth sports.
“With a blend of passion, expertise and a vision for youth empowerment, our efforts could redefine the future of grassroots football in the country,” said Kalua.
Kalua also appealed to corporations to support the initiative and help needy academies in the country.
“We urge corporations to join us in supporting these young talents, providing them with the necessary resources to succeed,” he said.
Sau Ching’amba, coach and founder of Ching’amba Football Academy, expressed his gratitude to the FLA for their generous support.
“We are thankful for the generous support and sponsorship from the soccer legends, which will contribute to the academy’s growth and success,” said Ching’amba.
Ching’amba Football Academy, founded in 2019 by Sam Ching’amba and two fellow teachers, is located in Traditional Authority Kalumbu, Lilongwe.
The academy boasts a total of 78 players, comprising 18 under-12, 25 under-14, and 35 under-17 players.
