In a remarkable tale of perseverance and determination, Liko Zimba, CEO and Founder of KoakhFit, has transformed a humble home project into a thriving business, supplying high-quality fitness equipment to gyms across Malawi.
What began as a passion project in 2020, when gyms shut down due to the pandemic, has evolved into a full equipped enterprise.
Zimba started crafting dumbbells and kettlebells at home, initially for personal use, but soon attracted interest from friends and acquaintances.
Despite facing skepticism and rejection from some, who doubted locally made gym equipment, Zimba said he used social media to showcase his products which helped built loyal customer base.
Today, KoakhFit boasts of making a wide range of equipment, including full-scale machines and refurbishing gym equipment and cardio machines. The company has also expanded into active wear and gym accessories for both men and women.
“We believe that fitness is a necessity, not a luxury, our goal is to create accessible, high-quality fitness solutions that empower people to take control of their health and well-being,” said Zimba.
KoakhFit aims at bridging the gap in fitness accessibility, ensuring that people across Malawi have access to durable gym equipment. The company is also committed to promoting lifelong wellness, encouraging people to adopt active lifestyles, prioritise movement and integrate fitness into their daily routines.
In addition, KoakhFit is building a hub for health and fitness education, offering events, workshops and digital content to support people on their fitness journeys.
The company is dedicated to creating locally made, high-quality equipment using recycled and sustainable materials, promoting environmental sustainability in the fitness industry.
Ronald Kaira, one of the gym lover has praised KoakhFit’s innovative approach to fitness. “KoakhFit is a shining example of Malawian ingenuity and entrepreneurship. Their commitment to promoting fitness and wellness is truly commendable.”
As KoakhFit continues to grow, Zimba remains committed to his vision of redefining what fitness means in Malawi.
“Our dream is to see more people moving, more communities embracing active lifestyles, and a shift toward holistic well-being across the country and beyond,” said Zimba.
