ABWEZI Farms, a female-led agricultural start-up, is revolutionising Malawi’s agricultural landscape with its commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability.
Founded in 2019 by Febrinia Chibweya, ABWEZI Farms officially registered as a sole proprietorship in 2022, the business employs a dedicated team of two permanent staff and 15-20 part-time labourers.
“The thing which started in a simple way, I am glad to see it growing, we are passionate about delivering top notch products at affordable prices,our vision is to become a leader in innovative and high-quality agricultural products and services,” she explained.
ABWEZI Farms specialises in cultivating groundnuts, soya beans, and rice, catering to agri-trading businesses and the open market, strategically located in Mkanda EPA, in Mchinji District.
According to Chibweya, the future plans include acquiring a farm and expanding into agro-processing. They also have plans to increase their rice cultivation area to 5 hectares by 2025.
“Despite challenges posed by climate change, we try to remain dedicated to sustainability,We are actively involved in re-afforestation initiatives,” she said.
Citizens around Mkanda and Mchinji as a whole have hailed Abwezi, calling it their reliable friend.
One business woman Lumase Kuswelo, who sells rice at Mkanda Trading Centre, shared the same sentiments.
“Abwezi is truly our friend, I no longer go long distance to look for rice ever since Abwezi was established and this young lady is inspirational to her fellow young ladies here” she said.
