FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR DEFIES THE ODDS: VENTURES INTO WELDING

Lilongwe-based female entrepreneur Susan Fabiano has defied all odds by venturing into a business mostly dominated by men.

The 23-year-old has set up a welding workshop in Mtandile Township in Lilongwe that specialises in fabrication of metal products such as door frames, tank stands, stylish flower stands and window frames, just to mention a few.

She has told ProjectM in an interview that she decided to set up the enterprise after noticing that a lot of girls do not consider venturing into the business.

“What triggered my passion for this enterprise is the general feeling the society has towards this profession In short, I am here to change the narrative,” said Fabiano.

The 2024 Malawi Certificate Schools Examination candidate plans to sharpen her skills by studying at Lilongwe Technical College.

“My wish is to stay in this business for a long time and I don’t plan on searching for white collar jobs,” said Fabiano.

Although she was reluctant to disclose the amount of profit she makes, she was quick to disclose that the business is able to support her daily needs.

Fabiano added that her vision is to see the enterprise thriving and turn into a multimillion business.

Meanwhile, girls rights activist Diverson Satha has commended her for venturing into a business mostly dominated by men.

She has since urged Fabiano to never give up.
