Airtel Top 8 defending champions FCB Nyasa Bullets cruised to the semi-finals after beating Civil Service United 2-0 on aggregate.
This follows a goalless draw on Saturday at Civo Stadium, but Bullets FC progressed after a 2-0 goal win in the first leg at Kamuzu Stadium.
The People’s Bullets should blame themselves for failing to score in a match they dominated.
They created many scoring chances, notably those Stanley Billiati, Babatunde Adepoje and Maxwell Phodo missed during the match.
The best chance came in the 27th minute but Nigerian striker Babatunde failed to convert a glorious chance in the first half when he shot wide from close range.
This was nine minutes after Bullets also missed a good chance through Billiati.
However, although Civil’s chances were far and few, their best chance came in the first half A through Chikaiko Batson who fed Blessings Malinda with a good cross, but he shot wide.
In the 56th minute, Babatunde forced a good save from Blessings Juma.
Their last chance to score came late in the match but Phodo who substituted Ernest Petro in the first half missed a chance to secure victory for his team.
Civil Service assistant coach Wilson Chidati conceded defeat, saying they were undone by their first leg loss away at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre
“I think we lost it all in Blantyre during the first leg. We tried to come back into the game today, but it was a tough nut to crack,” he said.
His Bullets counterpart Heston Munthali rued missed chances, but he said the important thing was to progress to the final.
“We are happy to have progressed despite the game ended in goalless. The result doesn’t matter because we have reached the final. Now we have to focus on the fixture,” he said.
Last year, Bullets swept all four silverware, TNM Super League, FDH Bank Bank, Airtel Top 8 and the inaugural Castel Cup.
However, their chance of defending the league is remote as they have struggling.
