FARMER’S ORGANIZATION INTRODUCES BIO-FERTILIZER

Lilongwe-based farmers organization, Farmers Voice Africa (FAVOA) has introduced a bio-fertiliser which has many benefits than chemical fertilisers.

The organisation’s president Brighton Jeremoti Zakaria says the fertiliser works by adding nutrients through the natural processes of nitrogen fixation, solubilising phosphorus and stimulating plant growth through the synthesis of growth-promoting substances.

Zakaria has urged farmers to use the fertilizer which is called “Capsule fertiliser.”

He has called it futuristic, innovative and an agricultural breakthrough.

“The fertiliser, which we are producing in partnership with Saju Agro-Dealers, has been tried and tested by the Ministry of Agriculture and we have been given a go ahead to start distributing to farmers,” said Zakaria.

He said once applied, the fertiliser releases micro-organisms in the soil that in turn restore the soil’s natural nutrient cycle and build soil organic matter.

“The fertiliser, which is sold in form of a capsule is diluted in water and applied to plants,” explained Zakaria.

According to instructions, one capsule can cover an acre of land.

“We have fertilisers for plant growth enriched with microorganisms that trigger natural phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium in the soil while the other fertiliser triggers nitrogen and is good for maize which has already grown,” Zakaria added.

Marietta Kaluzi, a farmer based in Mvera, Dowa, has touted the fertiliser saying she never regretted being one of the farmers who participated in it’s trials.

One capsule is being sold at K35,000.

Farmers can sample the product by contacting FAVOA on 0998637139.
