The Football Association of Malawi (FAM), has donated 264 footballs to the National Youth Football Association to be used in the FCB Under-19 Youth league across the country.
FAM Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda said, this is part of FAM’s transforming the game agenda.
Kumwenda has stressed the importance of providing basic needs such as footballs to facilitate the growth of young talent in the youth leagues.
“As a football governing body, we strive to provide seamless support towards youth leagues in the country by making sure that all youth football associations receive equipment and resources like footballs in the nick of time. We value the youth of our country; hence, the reason we would always work to invest in youth football to ensure they get the best delivery of what we provide,” he said.
General Secretary for National Youth Football Associations James Sawerengera has since commended the mother body for the timely donation, describing it as a game-changer that will significantly boost the targeted clubs training sessions and performance.
He, however, told ProjectM that the 264 footballs will be distributed amongst 174 registered teams in the 14 districts leagues across the country.
Said Sawerengera: “This initiative will undoubtedly go a long way in ensuring that these teams are being given the best possible equipment and necessary resources that will help to develop talent from the grassroots.
“This generous act aims to nurture the dreams of budding footballers thereby providing them with the essential gear to kick-start their journey in the spot.”
According to FAM, the 12 districts’ leagues with ten teams will get five footballs while the three cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, who have 16 teams will be given ten footballs.
