FAM President Fleetwood Haiya has taken a significant step to uplift beach soccer in Malawi by donating 100 balls to the Beach Soccer Association (BSA).
This support comes at a time when the sport is gaining momentum with the national team marking its presence in international tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations.
Haiya stated that the balls will help the Beach Soccer Association organize tournaments among youth teams and will also be used in the five areas where the league games are played, namely Mangochi, Salima, Nkhotakota, Chintheche in Nkhata Bay District and Karonga enabling wider participation and better training conditions.
“Our national team has shown remarkable potential by competing in the Africa Cup of Nations. Supporting beach soccer is not just an investment in sports but also in the aspirations of our youth,” said Haiya during the handover ceremony.
BSA Chairperson Gift Chimbalanga hailed the gesture as a milestone for the sport’s growth and revealed that the equipment would also enhance the upcoming Beach Soccer Championship in Karonga.
“This donation is a game-changer. It shows that FAM values the potential of beach soccer and the athletes driving it forward,” he said.
Haiya’s commitment reflects a vision to elevate less support sports in Malawi, inspiring hope for a brighter future in beach soccer.
The impact is already visible in Chintheche as training sessions are now more organised, with players perfecting their footwork under the guidance of experienced coaches.
At Kapiri Ntende in Karonga, excitement is building for this month’s Beach Soccer Championship where some of the donated balls will be used.
