Malawi’s women football star Tabitha Chawinga has paid tribute to her former club PSG Femine for playing a part in introducing her to a big stage.
This follows the Malawi National Women’s Football Team captain landing a lucrative deal with French Women’s top league side Olympique Lyonnais.
“Thank you all for welcoming me to the PSG family. All the way from Malawi, a little known country from Southern Africa. You embraced me and made me feel part of the your club.
“I will forever be grateful. Together, we made dreams come alive and more importantly, we made memories that I will forever hold dear. As I embark on my next French chapter, I hope to continue making you proud and remain united through the beautiful game of football.”
Tabitha also commended PSG fans for rendering their support during her one-year loan stint from Chinese top team Wuhan Jiangdad FC.
“To all the PSG supporters, your love was evident from the first day. Every minute you spared to watch our games. Every breath you spared and screaming my name and cheering us on, can never be taken for granted. Thank you PSG family. Thank you Parisians for your love, support and encouragement,” she said.
Tabitha was unveiled on Tuesday as a Lyon player, whose move is said to make her one of the highest paid players for the most successful Champions League club.
Her manager Tiana Msolomba said she was motivated to sign for PSG rivals to win the Champions League and become Ballon d’Or winner.
Last season, she was named French Player of the Year and Golden Boot winner, a feat she shared with global star former Kylian Mbappe PSG player who has since joined Spain giants Real Madrid.
