Blantyre-based female entrepreneur Ellen Umali has launched a unique blend of achaar that has drawn the attention of consumers.
Umali, a holder of Diploma in Journalism from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) is the founder and managing director of Elle’s Kitchen, a pioneering food company which is producing the achaar trading under the brand Elle’s Mango Achaar.
Umali has told ProjectM in an interview that her product has a tangy and flavourful condiment that captures the hearts of local consumers.
She said its production process involves gathering of Mangoes, spices such as mustard seeds, timur (Sichuan pepper), cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and chili powder.
The ingredients are carefully sorted and mixed to form Elle’s Mango Achaar.
Umali’s passion for cooking and entrepreneurship is said to have led her to create Mango Achaar.
“I wanted to bring a taste of India to Malawi, with a local twist. Mango Achaar is perfect for adding flavour to meals, snacking or as a gift,”she said.
Umali said since its launch earlier this year, Elle’s Mango Achaar has gained immense popularity in Blantyre and surrounding areas.
“I usually get orders from restaurants and cafes around Blantyre and right now, customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said.
Umali has since touted her product as the country’s next big thing saying it’s unique production process which involves no artificial additives, 100 percent ripe Mangoes and convenient packaging, has made it an instant hit on the market.
Her vision is to see Elle’s Mango achaar become a household staple in every Malawian household.
Renowned chef and a former employee of Kalikuti hotel, Evelyn Mphande praised Elle’s Mango Achaar, saying it is exceptional.
“This product has the potential to be a game changer on the market because of its combination of Mango and spices,” she said.
