Authorities in the area of Senior Chief Tengani in Nsanje will not be at high risk of being affected by floods following the construction of the two dykes to the tune of K1.4 billion.
Senior Chief Tengani said his subjects were affected by floods from Namiyala and Nkhande rivers.
He said the construction of the two dykes, along the two rivers, is going to save lives of the people from devastating floods.
The senior chief told ProjectM that the four villages, which were affected by floods, are now safer.
Malawi Resilience and Disaster Risk Management Project Sydney Kamtukule said they are about to complete the project in Traditional Authority Mbenje.
“We have to do some final touches before handing over,” he said.
Kamtukule said the concerns raised from the areas of T/A Mbenje and Tengani will be addressed before the official handing over of the dykes.
According to the official in the area of Traditional Authority Mbenje, there is a pit which requires to be filled up in order to avoid accidents.
