The business community and some of the county’s top entrepreneurs have described the late Vice president DR Saulos Chilima as a successful entrepreneur and innovator.
The late Vice President has also been hailed for his leadership and performance along with his numerous contributions to the country’s economy.
Born in 1973, Dr Chilima, 51 died after a plane that carried him alongside 8 others crashed in Chikangawa Forest in Mzimba District.
In an interview with ProjectM, renowned entrepreneur and lecturer at the Nkhoma University in Lilongwe, Vincent Matiya Chirwa described DR Chilima as a charismatic person who was hardworking and goal-oriented.
The lecturer, who worked with DR Chilima at Southern Bottlers (now Castel) and Celtel (now Airtel) also described him as a leader who was strategic.
“During my stints with DR Chilima both at Celtel and Southern Bottlers, he always kept an open door policy which allowed anyone to contribute his or her ideas freely,” said Chirwa.
Elisha Mbendera, a businessperson based in Lilongwe said DR Chilima as a leader was passionate about the youth.
“I feel down emotionally. I always remember Chilima as someone who personally inspired me to venture into entrepreneurship 5 years ago,” said Mbendera.
Other leaders including President DR Lazarus Chakwera, have described Chilima’s death as a huge loss for the nation.
DR Saulos Chilima, who served the country as a Vice-President for 9 years, was also the leader of UTM party in political circles.
Before joining politics back in 2014, he also served as the Chief Executive Officer for Celtel, Southern Bottlers among other big entities in Malawi.
