Community Leaders Pledge to Protect Trees in Mzuzu Schools

Local leaders and school management in Mzuzu have vowed to protect the 500 trees planted by the Ebenezer Community Development Organisation (ECOD) at Kanthete and Kawuwa Primary Schools.

The tree-planting initiative, which aims to promote environmental sustainability and community development, has induced the spirit of ownership and responsibility among community members.

Group Village Headman Gowamo assured ECOD that the school management and local leaders are committed to ensuring the trees thrive.

“We take pride in our community’s ability to come together and protect our environment,we will work tirelessly to ensure these trees are well-maintained and become a valuable resource for our school and community,” Gowamo said.

The pledge from community leaders is a significant boost to ECOD’s afforestation efforts, which aim to restore lost vegetation and promote environmental stewardship among schools.

ECOD Acting Executive Director Faston Bwanali welcomed the community’s commitment to protecting the trees.

“We are thrilled to see the community taking ownership of this initiative, together, we can create a greener, healthier environment for future generations,” Bwanali said.

One her part, Chikondi Zimba who is one of the learners at Kawuwa primary school also assured that the learners will also take part in protecting the trees.

The tree-planting initiative is part of ECOD’s broader mission to promote environmental conservation while supporting education and community development.

With the community’s pledge to protect the trees, the organisation is confident that its efforts will have a lasting impact.
