Church Youth Donate Waste Bins to Msungwi Market

In an effort to promote cleanliness and hygiene, the Chiuzimbi SDA Youth Ministries has donated waste bins worth over K100,000 to Msungwi Market.

The initiative, which included a parade, was aimed at encouraging proper waste disposal and improving the market’s environment.

Adventist Youth (AY) leader Naomi Thomson praised the dedication of the young members, stating that the church supported the initiative spiritually, morally, and financially.

“A hygienic environment ensures the well-being of both sellers and buyers. A clean market attracts more customers, making it a better place for business. After all, cleanliness is next to godliness,” she said.

Despite financial challenges, the youth successfully raised funds through contributions from club members. Thomson expressed gratitude to the children who took part and encouraged them to continue making a positive impact in their community.

Environmental scientist Brian Kububa Tembo commended the youth for their efforts, highlighting the importance of engaging young people in environmental conservation.

“This initiative by the children is a great step toward waste management and environmental sustainability. Such actions should be encouraged in all communities to maintain cleanliness and protect public health,” Tembo said.

The market chairperson assured vendors that the bins would be well maintained, while Styness Phiri, a frequent customer, praised the children for their dedication.

“This is a great initiative. The market will now be cleaner and more organised,” Phiri said.

The youth ministry has pledged to undertake more community projects in the future. Thomson encouraged young people to participate in similar initiatives, stating that such activities instill values of responsibility, event planning, and financial management.

The youth have urged them to properly use the bins to ensure a clean and safe environment for everyone.
