Chikwawa Women Trained In Entrepreneurship

Sixty women from Chikwawa District have been trained in entrepreneurship, thanks to an organisation called Community Focus Organisation (COFO).

The training, which started on Monday, was facilitated by economic experts from the Chikwawa district council.

COFO executive director Joshua Malunga has told ProjectM in an interview that among others, the training was organised with an aim of enhancing entrepreneurial skills and economic empowerment for selected female entrepreneurs.

“The training mainly brought together women from Maphunziro ndi Chuma and Titukule Maphunziro groups, well known groups that comprise female entrepreneurs from Chikwawa district,” Malunga said.

Malunga said, through the training, COFO believes the women, who are mostly into small-scale businesses, will eventually graduate into reliable business operators.

“This initiative is part of COFO’s broader commitment to supporting education and community development,” said Malunga.

Meanwhile, the organisation has also indicated that it has disbursed a combined total of close to 2 billion kwacha to support women who attended the training.

“We hope this small token will go a long way towards boosting their businesses,” he added.

One of the participants of the training, Mary Lloyd, thanked COFO for organising the training, saying she has benefited a lot.

“This training has been an eye opener for me and I believe my business will improve,” said Lloyd.
