CHAWINGA STARS NOMINATED IN TOP 20 BEST TEAM

November belongs to the Chawinga sisters, Tabitha and Temwa, as ESPN has ranked the Malawian duo in the top 20 as the best players in 2024 season.

The two players have become the centre of attention with their respective clubs in Europe and America with their impressive performance.

The news comes barely after Temwa was nominated as the most valuable player in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States of America.

Temwa Chawinga has been ranked 19 for scoring 20 goals and 6 assists in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States of America, making her to win the Golden boot award.

Temwa Chawinga set a new scoring record in her first season, overtaking Australian Samantha Kerr’s tally of 18 which had stood since 2019.

With her 20th of the campaign, coming against San Diego Wave, she also became the first player to score against all 13 opponents in a single term.

A further six assists to her name means she has 26 goal involvements in 25 games, which is an excellent feat that has broken new ground in an ever-evolving league.

Tabitha Chawinga has been ranked 12th after he stellar performance in the 2023/24 season with PSG which saw her winning the golden boot in France in the Arkema Premier League and also was named the best player of the League.

Tabitha was recently ranked 16th in the Ballon d’Or standings, the first Malawian to be nominated for such prestigious award.

Tabitha Chawinga was also the star performer in the 2023/2024 season as she was named in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Team of the Year for the 2023/24 season.

Since moving to Olympic Lyonnais, Chawinga has scored 5 goals and 4 assists in 10 games she has played in the League and UEFA Women’s Champions League for the team.

The Malawi Women’s Football team captain, Tabitha Chawinga, signed a three-year contract with Olympique Lyonnais Féminin in the Arkema Première Ligue of France and has since scored 5 goals and 4 assists in 10 games she has played in the League and UEFA Women’s Champions League at the team.

She is also the first Malawian to play and score (five goals and two assists) in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The pair are at the height of their game, linking up for Malawi on the international stage.
