Powered by goals from Scorchers star Temwa Chawinga and midfielder Debinha, the Kansas City Current defeated the North Carolina Courage 2-0 in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup semi-final Wednesday morning at CPKC Stadium.
The early goal that came just three minutes into the match and a late Debinha goal has pushed the team forward.
The Current mobilised another chance in the 72nd minute as Debinha fed defender Hailie Mace down the right sideline, allowing her to send a cross into the box.
The cross deflected off Debinha and right to forward Michelle Cooper, but her shot sailed just wide.
The Current will, therefore, face NJ/NY in the tournament final on 25 October in San Antonio in Texas.
Gotham will face Chawinga’s team having defeated Angel City FC 1-0 on the same day Kansas City played.
Chawinga missed the last two Summer Cup matches with a leg injury and was hit in the face with a ball in the second half of the match.
Chawinga joined Kansas City for a two-year old deal, with 17 games played in the club, Chawinga has scored 12 goals.
Current forward Temwa Chawinga was named the NWSL Player of the Month for June.
Chawinga scored six goals in Kansas City’s four matches last month, including two braces and adding two assists and she scored in every match in June and outscored 10 NWSL clubs on her own.s.
