The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) has launched a life-changing initiative in Nkhata Bay, providing school fees bursaries and essential learning materials to over 300 needy girls in the district.
This move has given the girls a second chance to pursue their education, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their dreams.
Nkhata Bay District Principal Education Officer, Macvinly Kamata, expressed gratitude to CAMFED, saying it has brought hope to the girls to have a brighter future.
“We are really grateful to CAMFED for coming to our rescue again by supporting our needy girls who would have otherwise been at home due to lack of school fees,” said Kamata.
For many girls in Nkhata Bay, dropping out of school due to financial constraints was a harsh reality.
However, thanks to CAMFED’s timely intervention, these girls can now focus on their studies without worrying about school fees. The beneficiaries include 210 Form One and 138 Form Four students from 29 Community Day Secondary Schools across the district.
The support goes beyond just school fees, with the girls receiving sanitary pads, exercise books, pens, school bags and uniforms.
This approach has not only reduced absenteeism but also boosted the girls’ confidence and motivation to learn.
One beneficiary, Maggie Kaunda, a Form 4 student at Mtetete CDSS commended the initiative.
She said: “Let me encourage all other girls to make good use of these resources so that we pass our examinations with flying colours and achieve our dreams.”
The district’s Community Development Officer Jacob Moloko pledged to continue raising awareness against early marriages, a major contributor to school dropout among girls.
The girls have expressed gratitude for the support, promising to work hard and achieve their dreams.
CAMFED support offers these girls a platform to create their brighter future and the communities they live in.
The initiative underlines that every girl deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to reach her potential.
