Jamaican Reggae Music maestro Burning Spear’s historical tour of Malawi is on with local promoters Sound Addicts Live and Sound System confirmed to organise the show.
Burning Spear, who commands a legion of reggae fans in Malawi and the world, is on a 14-day trek dubbed ‘One People Africa Tour’ from October 12 which will take him to Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia and Malawi.
The confirmation comes two weeks after the announcement that the musician will include Malawi on his tour, effectively proving doubting Thomases of being a prank.
Said: “We are the organisers of the Malawi leg of the tour as you know Burning Spear is coming to Africa on a tour. He has already confirmed and he has already sent a confirmation video.
“Currently, we are in the middle of finalising preparations to announce the rest of the details. So, we urge Malawians to be on the look-out for details on our Sound Addicts Live Page and also Kumingoli Page as well.”
The music fraternity, especially reggae followers, welcomed the news with excitement.
This is wonderful news indeed. Let the spear burn in Malawi. Please we wish him a nice performance in Malawi and keep the fire burning. We love you,” reads a Facebook post by Rabson Chibade.
Another fan Kennedy Nyasulu summed up, saying: “At 75 still going strong. Jah live. Jah Praise. We welcome you to the Warm Heart of Africa.
Augustine Chipembere said he cannot miss such an opportunity. “Just tell us about where he will perform so that we can come on 1 October with our beddings waiting for the show,” he said.
Among major reggae music icons, who have performed in Malawi in the past, are Morgan Heritage, Busy Signal, Lucky Dube and Kingstone.
Others are Kwasakwasa gurus Awiro Longomba and Kanda Bongoman.
