Blantyre Joint Choir to Perform East Cantata

The Blantyre Joint Choir (BJC) is set to perform an Easter Cantata at Soche Anglican Parish in Blantyre.

The choir’s spokesperson, Ceaser George Mzumala, said under the theme “Victory over death”, derived from 1 Corinthians 15:55-56, the choir will hold the Cantata as part of Easter celebration.

Mzumala explained that the inter-denominational choir has organised the show in response to public demand.

He has since thanked leadership at Soche Anglican Parish for agreeing to offer a free venue for the show.

“We glorify God for the calls that we received to perform, as well as for the positive response by the Soche Anglican Parish to provide a venue for the event on a short notice,” Mzumala said.

He disclosed that initially the group did not arrange for the Easter Cantata but responded to calls as an Easter Cantata offers a powerful way to reflect on the themes of hope, renewal and redemption.

“We initially did not have plans to perform an Easter Cantata, but being in God’s ministry, we could not run away, because the calls signify the value people have on our ministry and talent God gave us. We also value the community engagement and spiritual growth that emanates from the public functions we freely offer to the public,” he said.

Mzumala added: “So, by public demand, the Blantyre Joint Choir will indeed hold an Easter Cantata on Wednesday at Soche Anglican in Chitawira. We have been conducting intensive training sessions in the past few days for this joyous event so that people enjoy and get blessed as we eagerly wait for the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

An Easter Cantata is a musical composition that tells the story of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection through songs and hymns and according to Mzumala, per the Cantata traditions, there will also be some spiritual reflections. Christ The King Anglican Parish member James Chimwaza will lead in sharing the Word of God

“We are, therefore, appealing to residents of Blantyre and surrounding areas to patronise the show to the glory of God,” said Mzumala.

Commenting on having one group he said other choirs that usually join the show have other engagements.

In December last year, the Blantyre Joint Choir partnered the Blantyre City Council to organise a Citywide interdenominational Christmas Cantanta at the Civic Centre hall on December 14 under the theme “For unto us a child is born”.

The group was formed in 1978 and has membership from different denominations.
