Blantyre-based innovator Daniel Ekali Kwizombe has won the prestigious “Innovative Start-up of the Year” Award which is under the Muzi Ecosystem Initiative.
The founder and managing director of Dek Engineering and Electrical Contractors Private Limited has won the award, fending off competition from dozens of other innovators.
Kwizombe, the brains behind “Eka-lite brand”, a locally manufactured LED light bulbs, has told ProjectM in an interview that he feels honored with the award.
“I feel greatly honoured with this award and I feel like my hard work is finally being rewarded,” he said.
His innovation, Eka-lite bulbs, emerged top, defeating dozens of other innovations.
The Muzi Ecosystem Initiative is a tourism business training and incubation programme for the youth and Women in Rumphi, Salima and Zomba Districts.
The programme is being implemented by the Mzuzu University under the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management and the Malawi Institute of Tourism with support from the GIZ.
The Muzi Ecosystem Initiative has through its website hailed Kwizombe for submitting what it described as a convincing project.
